HAAAC funds and coordinates cancer screenings to eligible individuals. Coordination includes scheduling appointments, arranging and funding transportation, translation of test results And Extensive follow up.
HAAAC’s goal is to increase awareness of cancer related issues and provide information and resources on screenings, treatment and counseling.
HAAAC works with both clients and providers to translate information about resources and assist with completing necessary forms. This assistance includes resources covered by insurance companies, government programs, as well as those free to the community.
HAAAC’s role is to serve as a link between the doctor and the client. Once a doctor has given a diagnosis and available treatment options, HAAAC explains these diagnoses and options in Creole to the client. The association’s priority is to make sure that the patient fully understands all aspects of the diagnosis available treatment including surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and possible side effects.
HAAAC provides cancer support services to individuals, families and groups. Support services include: home and hospital visitation by trained staff and volunteers; nutrition counseling; support group meetings in Creole; and teaching coping strategies to families.
